MacGillivray Law
David Vs Goliath
We produced a groundbreaking, custom-animated television commercial campaign that rejected aggressive legal clichés to frame the firm as a "David vs. Goliath" champion for everyday citizens, laying the branding foundation that helped them scale into the largest personal injury law firm in Atlantic Canada.
The Goal: Break the mold of traditional, aggressive personal injury commercials by creating an artistic, animated broadcast campaign that frames the firm as the ultimate protector of everyday citizens fighting corporate giants.
The Challenge
The personal injury law sector is plagued by exhausting, highly predictable advertising clichés. Viewers are constantly bombarded with standard daytime television commercials featuring aggressive lawyers standing in front of mahogany bookshelves, shouting phone numbers, and flashing cheap graphics of car crashes. When MacGillivray Law approached us to produce their very first television commercial campaign, they adamantly refused to blend into that corporate noise. They wanted a commercial that didn't feel transactional, threatening, or cheap. The challenge was to invent a completely fresh visual style for regional legal marketing, one that could cut through broadcast saturation and intuitively communicate the firm's core philosophy: that everyday people deserve an elite protector when facing multi-billion-dollar insurance giants.
Our Approach
We stepped away from standard live-action corporate video entirely, pitching a bold, high-impact creative concept rooted in custom animation.
The "David vs. Goliath" Narrative: We structured the commercial’s script to strip away confusing legal jargon, focusing instead on a universal human truth. We framed the legal system as a classic "David vs. Goliath" battle, positioning the injured client as the "little guy" and the predatory insurance institutions as the "big guy."
Character-Driven Animation: By utilizing a bespoke, cinematic animation style, we bypassed the aggressive, clinical, and often triggering imagery of traditional injury ads. The animation allowed us to visually manifest abstract concepts—showing a small, vulnerable character being overshadowed by a towering corporate shadow, only for MacGillivray Law to step into the frame, level the playing field, and push back against the giant.
High-Utility Broadcast Engineering: We optimized the final animated assets into highly scannable, punchy 15- and 30-second broadcast segments. The vibrant visual palette and metaphorical storytelling were engineered to instantly grab attention on television screens, ensuring the firm's branding remained memorable long after the commercial break ended.
It's about finding out what an organization is really passionate about, what they really want to do.”
The Impact
The campaign shattered regional legal advertising standards, establishing an unforgettable broadcast presence that resonated deeply with the Atlantic Canadian public. By choosing an artistic, empathetic animation over typical boardroom posturing, the commercial successfully humanized MacGillivray Law, positioning them not just as attorneys, but as compassionate champions for the exploited. This creative leap served as a powerful brand accelerator: over the decades following their initial broadcast push, MacGillivray Law scaled aggressively from a regional practice into the largest injury and disability law firm in Atlantic Canada. The project stands as definitive proof that when a corporate brand has the courage to reject industry clichés and tell a story through art, they don't just win viewers—they capture the market.
