Sistema Revolution
We co-navigated an expedition to Venezuela to produce an award-winning national CBC documentary that served as the direct catalyst for unlocking a $1.5 million provincial investment, helping scale a free orchestral music program from 50 children to nearly 1,000 daily participants across New Brunswick.
A premium 46-minute broadcast feature film, high-impact fundraising trailer cuts, and an ongoing legacy asset package for donor relations.
The Challenge
In 2009, the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra (NBYO) harbored a radical, wildly ambitious dream: to launch Sistema New Brunswick, a social development program designed to rescue children from generational poverty and vulnerability through the transformative power of intensive, orchestral music mentorship. The concept was inspired by Venezuela's famous El Sistema model, but bringing it to Atlantic Canada required massive capital, institutional buy-in, and political support. At the time, the program had zero provincial funding and only operated out of one prototype room with 50 children. To scale this movement, they needed more than a corporate fundraising brochure; they needed an explosive, emotionally undeniable proof-of-concept that would visually demonstrate the magical human transformation that happens when a child picks up an instrument.
Our Approach
We leaned into the raw power of experiential, boots-on-the-ground storytelling and stepped forward as the foundational media partner for the movement.
The Venezuelan Research Expedition: We co-navigated an intense research expedition to Caracas, Venezuela. Operating with an agile, high-sensitivity crew, we embedded ourselves directly within the barrios to film the raw, awe-inspiring reality of El Sistema on its home turf.
Bridging the Global to the Local: Back home, we beautifully wove that international footage together with intimate, vulnerable stories of the first 50 New Brunswick children entering the pilot program. We captured the exact moments their behavior, focus, and self-esteem shifted.
National Broadcast Leverage: We shaped this rich footage into a gripping, 46-minute feature-length documentary titled Sistema Revolution. We secured a prime-time national broadcast slot on CBC, instantly validating the project's credibility and introducing the movement to millions of Canadian households.
For the government, Sistema is essentially a social project; an engine for human development. Poverty means loneliness, sadness, anonymity. For the children of Sistema, an orchestra means joy, motivation, teamwork and the aspiration to success.
The Impact
The legacy of Sistema Revolution represents the ultimate realization of our core company purpose. The film didn't just accumulate broadcast views; it sparked a massive, historic societal shift. Following the CBC broadcast and a series of strategic community screenings, the visual evidence deeply moved public stakeholders and corporate donors. The documentary served as the direct catalyst that unlocked a landmark $1.5 million investment from the Province of New Brunswick, alongside millions more in long-term corporate sponsorships. Today, fueled by the momentum that the film ignited, Sistema New Brunswick has scaled from that single room of 50 kids to a province-wide phenomenon operating 10 centers and empowering nearly 1,000 children every single day—for free. It stands as an award-winning, undeniable testament that authentic, accessible storytelling can physically rewrite the future of a community.
